Turmeric

INCI: Curcuma Longa Root Extract

It supports the formula but is not the depigmenting engine.

We will be direct: turmeric is not the depigmenting engine in our Kojic + Turmeric line. Kojic acid is. Turmeric modulates the inflammatory signalling that triggers the mark in the first place.

Why not higher

The topical evidence for curcuminoids as a standalone depigmenting agent is weak. We use it as supporting care, not as the engine — and we label it that way.

What it does

What it is

Turmeric is the root of Curcuma longa, and its active fraction is a group of compounds called curcuminoids. It has been used in South Asian skincare for centuries, mostly for its anti-inflammatory and wound-healing associations.

Why it is in the formula

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation has two halves: the inflammation, and the pigment that follows it. Most tone products address only the second half. Curcuminoids address the first, by modulating inflammatory signalling. That makes turmeric a logical partner for kojic acid — it helps prevent the trigger that creates the mark you are trying to fade.

What we will not claim

You will not find us claiming that turmeric fades dark spots on its own. The topical evidence for curcuminoids as a standalone depigmenting agent is weak, and the category is full of brands that blur that line. We use a standardised extract at a defined level as supporting care, and we label it that way.

Safety notes

A standardised extract at our inclusion level should not stain. If you see temporary yellowing, it washes away — it is not a pigment deposit.
